Order of Service Advice
I’ve had a big rush of Order of Service requests recently so thought it was time to write out some important information & tips to help you along the way to ensure it is well-organised and reflects your personal style.
1. Choose a trusted stationer:
Preferably someone who is doing all of your ‘on the day’ items, so you can have a cohesive deisgn throughout.
2. Plan in advance:
Start working on your wedding Order of Service well in advance to allow for revisions and printing time. Aim to have it finalised at least a 3-4 weeks before the wedding.
3. Gather essential information:
Collect all the necessary details, such as the date, time and location of your wedding ceremony, as well as the names of the couple, wedding party members, and your officiant/celebrant. Also, include any special readings, musical pieces or rituals you plan to incorporate.
4. Make it stand out
Outline the structure: Decide on the order of events for your ceremony and create a clear outline. Typically, a wedding order of service includes the opening, processional, readings, exchange of vows and rings, unity ceremony (if applicable), pronouncement of marriage, recessional, and any other important elements unique to your ceremony.
6. Include clear instructions:
Provide instructions for guests to participate in specific parts of the ceremony, such as standing or sitting, when to join in singing or responding and any rituals they may need to follow.
7. Acknowledge wedding party members:
Dedicate a section to introduce and thank your wedding party, including the Maid of Honour, Best men, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen and any other special participants. Briefly mention their names and their relationship to you.
8. Recognise loved ones:
Consider including a section to honour and remember loved ones who cannot be present, such as those who have passed away. This can be done through a short note or a moment of silence.
9. Proofread & review (this is key!): Carefully proofread the content to ensure all names, dates, and details are accurate. Have someone else review it as well to catch any errors you may have missed.
Remember, the wedding order of service is a keepsake for your guests and can enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the ceremony. So, take your time to create a beautiful and informative program that reflects the joy and significance of your special day.
I hope this helps!
Love,
Amy
