Tips for Planning a Sustainable Wedding

Reading time: 5 minutes

Hello Brides & Grooms to be! Planning your dream wedding day is exciting, but don’t forget to consider how you can be kind to the environment in the process. Weddings are notorious for being wasteful, but there are so many ways to avoid this.

Here are 7 tips to help you throw a celebration that's not just about love but also about caring for our planet. From venue choices to party favours, let's explore ways to make your big day sustainable and oh-so-special. Let's dive in!

Choosing Biodegradable / Plantable Stationery

You can still send a physical invitation and be eco-friendly. In fact, you can actually help the bees! By sending a Beloved Creations seeded wildflower invitation, your guests can plant it in the garden in warm weather. I also offer other recycled and biodegradable paper options!

Choose a ‘Green’ Venue

Look for venues that prioritise sustainability (and so many more do these days!) Venues such as South Farm in Hertfordshire are a great example of this. Efforts such as food from ‘field to fork, wildlife conservation & eco-friendly planting are brilliant eco initiatives.

Rent or Borrow

Instead of buying brand new wedding attire, consider renting a wedding dress or suit. There are lots of rental services available & this reduces the resources and waste associated with new clothing. You can also look for pre-loved dresses and suits (Vinted, anyone?)

Local & Seasonal Flowers

Use locally grown, seasonal flowers for your bouquets & decorations. This supports local farmers & reduces the carbon footprint of transportation. You can also consider using potted plants that can be replanted after the wedding.

Zero-Waste Catering

Work with caterers who focus on local, organic, and seasonal ingredients. Discuss options for using reusable or compostable dinnerware, cutlery & napkins to minimise single-use plastics. Avoid over-ordering to reduce food waste too!

Reusable Decor

Choose table and venue decorations that can be reused or repurposed after the wedding. For example fabric bunting, potted plants or LED candles instead of disposable items. You can also borrow or rent decorations from friends or local event rental companies too.

Eco-Friendly Favors

Give your guests sustainable & meaningful wedding favours. Ideas like potted plants, seeds for planting, homemade treats in reusable jars or charitable donations made in their names. Avoid plastic trinkets that often end up in the rubbish!
